A Message from the Minister of Indigenous Services, Canada

Dear partners,

None of us could have foreseen the profound and prolonged impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities across Canada. Indeed, 2020 has been a year like no other.

During these unique and challenging times, I have witnessed the monumental dedication and leadership you have shown in the face of this new reality, speaking up for the needs of your communities, children and families.

A lot has been accomplished over the past months, and I know the work will continue on the COVID-19 response and recovery over the months ahead. Your perseverance allow us to begin the upcoming year with confidence.

The pandemic may not be over, but I know that we are heading into 2021 better equipped and better prepared for what’s ahead.

I sincerely hope that you will be able to spend time with your loved ones and your families—even if virtually.

I wish you a restful, safe and happy holiday season.

Marc Miller
Minister, Indigenous Services Canada

COVID-19 vaccine for Canada fact sheet

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread and reduce the impact of infectious diseases, whether
it’s seasonal flu or childhood infections. A safe and effective vaccine(s) for COVID-19 will protect us against the novel
coronavirus and will be an important step to safely resume normal life in Canada and around the world. The Government
of Canada is working on all possible fronts to secure access to safe and effective vaccines and related supplies for
Canadians. Here is what Canadians need to know about a future COVID-19 vaccine

COVID-19 and Children and Family Funding

The Government of Canada’s top priority is the health and safety of all Canadians, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Since the beginning of the pandemic,
we have been actively working with partners to support Indigenous Peoples and communities in preparing and responding to COVID-19. We recognize that First
Nation, Inuit and Métis are among the most at risk and face unique challenges in addressing COVID-19, and that Indigenous leadership, governments and
organizations are best placed to determine the needs of Indigenous Peoples and to develop community-based solutions that respond to these challenges.
