Meet our Team

Chief William Lloyd Noganosh Niimki Tiik (Thunder Stick) My name is William Lloyd Noganosh, and I am Chief of Magnetawan First Nation. William and Esther Noganosh were my parents. I came back to live in our community 25 years ago, and I live by the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Zaagidwin (Love), Mnaadendmowin (Respect), Gwekwaadziwin (Honesty), Debwewin (Truth), Nbwaakaawin (Wisdom), Aakde'win (Bravery) and Dbaadendizwin (Humility). Throughout my career, I have built skills - such as problem-solving, conflict resolution, and lobbying - that I now bring to my role as Chief. Some of my past accomplishments are as follows: First Vice President of the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres, a member of the Board of the Parry Sound Community Business Development Centre, Team Manager at the provincial Ministry of Community and Social Services, and Community Development Officer at Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Management Board. Here at home, I've served as Chief, Councillor, Band Manager, and the Director of Governance. I took on the challenge of being Chief because I want to make things better for all our members, both on and off reserve. Currently, Chief and Council, through our Governance department, are working on the four laws of leadership selection, citizenship, language and culture, and financial management. We are working hard to empower our people. Your voice matters.

My name is April Cardinal, and I am a mother of three boys, ages 26, 15 and 11. Born and raised in Toronto, I moved to Barrie nine years ago. For 10 years, I worked at Native Child and Family Services in Toronto. Following that, I served three years as the Family Well-Being and Band Representative for Magnetawan First Nation. For the past seven years, I’ve worked at Wahnapitae First Nation, where I was the Social Services Director. My educational background is in Aboriginal Child Welfare and Domestic Violence Counselling. The reason that I chose to run for Magnetawan First Nation Council is to pay it forward. To provide my community with my knowledge and experience within the extremely delicate but important child welfare system. My hope is to make my community proud in the work that we do and the knowledge I can bring to the table. I enjoy working for First Nation communities and people, and I look forward to meeting you and working for you and your family!

My name is Pam deHaan and I’m honoured to serve as Deputy Chief for Magnetawan First Nation. I live in Mount Hope with my husband of over 30 years. I’m the proud mom of two grown children, and a new grandmama! I love cooking, reading, fishing, and travelling whenever I can. Even though I don’t live on the reserve, I stay involved and care deeply about our community. I live by the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Truth, Respect, Honesty, Bravery, Humility, Wisdom, and Love. I do my best to carry those into everything I do. For almost 40 years, I’ve worked in the travel industry, and I currently work as a Director of Marketing and Supplier Relations. I have a strong background in communications, strategic partnerships and negotiations and I’ve run my own small business. During the pandemic, I served as Magnetawan First Nation’s Communications Officer, sharing updates and supporting COVID-19 funding. I’ve been part of the Citizenship Working Group since its inception. My goal during this term is to build trust, improve communication, advocate for housing, and to work alongside the community in a good way. I will support decisions that reflect our collective values and protect what matters most -Our People, Our Traditions, and Our Land.

Aanii, Bonzhoo, Nibi-bimiseg nindizhinikaaz, Ma'iigan nindoodem, nindonjibaa Magnetawan. My name is Julie Sabourin-Fontaine. This is my first term on Council and I’m also the Governance Director for Magnetawan First Nation. My career began in Fisheries and Habitat Management at Fisheries and Oceans Canada. I was with them for ten years. Following this, I worked for five years at each of Magnetawan First Nation, as Director of Operations, and Wahnapitae First Nation as their Executive Director. I then worked as Governance Director at Zhiibaahaasing First Nation. Fishing, hunting and winding down around the campfire with my family, are some of my favorite things to do. I support self-governance for First Nations and our inherent right to make and implement our own laws. My goal is to create the laws that will empower Magnetawan leadership and staff to serve our E'Dbendaagzijig in an effective and transparent manner, by following the Creator's teachings.
