For many years Magnetawan First Nation (MFN) has contemplated a potential quarry site within the reserve boundary, to the extent that a small test quarry was developed in the early 2000’s. The test quarry site was initiated based on information provided and established by a preliminary evaluation report for the development of a rock quarry on Magnetawan First Nation. More recently, the focus for a quarry on reserve lands was targeted at a site just west of the existing test quarry adjacent to Hwy 645. This Quarry provides granular material for general construction type  “A” and “B2”. Type “A” is ¾” crushed stone that contains fine granular granite, and type “B” is 2”+/- in size. The operational process for this site prepared each type of material, at June 2019, the remaining volumes are estimated at 60,000 metric tonnes.

This Quarry has supplied local housing projects, and road maintenance. As well as providing material to Construction Projects such as Hwy 529 Power Tel and Others.

There is an estimated volume of 4 million tonnes of aggregate in the identified extractable area.

The next phase of the project is to implement an operational management plan to continue providing aggregate to the community and local area.
